How To Change Your Mind and Your Life

The greatest power we all possess is the power of choice. Every day we wake up and make choices that impact our lives. From the small choices to the big ones all of them play a major factor in how we develop in our lives. When you have made the choice to transform yourself into a better person then you are making one of the most impactful choices of your life. Improving the way you function can help you live a more productive and fulfilling life. To change you must first prepare your mind so that your body and actions will follow your desires.

Figure out a way to motivate yourself mentally for a positive change in your life. People trying to lose weight should picture an image of their body a few months from now when they take off a shirt. Anyone that wants to become more cultured and travel should look forward to any upcoming trips they have planned for the future. Whatever you have to do to motivate yourself mentally do it. You cannot hope to change if you do not change the way you think. Get rid of any negative thoughts you have in your head and focus on the positive. Positive reinforcement can go a long way in motivating you to stick to your goals.

What is it that you want to change about yourself? Do you want to make a significant change in your body type or the way you act? Are you interested in making more money? Sit down and actually think about the type of person you want to develop into. Personal development relies heavily on the goals you set forth. Clearly outline your goals to ensure that you have a clear understanding of what type of person you wish to change into.

Devise a strategy towards personal development. A lot of people that want a positive change in their life get a life coach. A life coach is someone that motivates you in every aspect of life. This person acts as your guide and disciplinary measure should you stray from your path towards development. Your life coach does not have to be a professional; a friend or family member can be your life coach. Consider talking to someone you can rely on to keep you motivated through every step you take as you try and develop into a better version of yourself.

Every day write down what you are going to do to change. Put a quick note on your phone so you have access to it at all times. Constantly remind yourself how you are going to change as the day progresses. At the end of the day rate yourself and then reflect on the good things you did and then on some of the things you could have done better. Work towards changing who you are every day and before you know it you will be a much better person. Even if you don’t feel different everyone else around you will notice a difference in you.

Confidence Is the Key, right?

Let’s face it; if you want to succeed at anything, you need to have a certain level of confidence. This doesn’t mean that you need to boldly and fearlessly attack every aspect of life. There certainly may be areas where you lack confidence. You need to identify, however, the areas of life where you need to be confident in order to succeed.

The first thing you need to do is to identify where you need more confidence, and where you don’t. Let’s say, for example, that you are afraid of public speaking, and you need to get over that to succeed. In this case, you need to gain confidence in speaking in front of people. If you lack confidence in cooking a good meal, that certainly won’t matter to your speaking ability. You need to identify where you need to gain confidence, and where lack of confidence doesn’t matter. This doesn’t mean that you can’t gain confidence in other areas, though.

One of the dangers of a lack of confidence is that it can fuel failure. Failure then leads to decreased confidence, which leads to failure, which leads to… well you can see it’s a vicious circle. Lack of confidence and failure feed on each other, and they will drag you down. So, the first key to gaining confidence is to succeed rather than fail.

Your first successes do not need to be major successes. You just need to succeed at something to start lifting yourself up, and break out of the failure->lack of confidence cycle. Choose a small goal to achieve. This needs to be a goal that you cannot achieve at this time, but it also needs to be achievable with a little bit of work. Set your mind on achieving this goal. Set yourself a realistic time frame, and then determine what you need to in order to succeed.

Once you achieve this goal, you will start to see that you can succeed. Keep setting yourself goals, and work towards achieving them. Success will lead to confidence, which will lead to more success, and so on. Before long, you will be able to attack the critical areas where you lack confidence. If you fear public speaking, you can now start working on that lack of confidence. Find mentors to help you along. Find groups and organizations that will help you to build confidence.

Do not confuse confidence with arrogance. Being confident is a good thing, being arrogant is a bad thing. Confidence is the idea that you can achieve something that you can succeed. Arrogance is the idea that you are better than others.

Confidence is the key to succeeding in any aspect of life. Whether you want to succeed in business, creative endeavors, fitness, weight loss, or family, you need to have confidence. Start by setting yourself small goals, and find small successes. Build on those successes and you will find yourself gaining confidence in all areas of your life. Once you have confidence and success, then you can start helping those who lack confidence themselves.

Personal Development Starts The Moment You Wake Up

I am on the path of self-improvement. Every day I focus on personal development, but I noticed something very interesting. Improving our mindset, our health, and our financial standing is on a timetable that we often overlook. Almost every top motivational speaker, guru, and coach tells us about the importance of the first moments of the day, but we try to ignore them. I want to explain to you why you must start listening to their advice and capture those precious moments.

What is the biggest determining factor in your productivity? It is your mindset. If you are thinking positive thoughts, feel motivated, and confident, you achieve more. You get more work done in the office and it is higher in quality. Your workout in the gym is more intense and you feel great when the workout is finished. At what time of the day should you start to feel positive, motivated, and excited about life?

The only time you can capture the most advantage from the day is the moment you wake up. That is the time you should start feeding your mind the motivation and inspiration it needs. We suggest you do a few things in those first critical moments of the day.

• Read your goals immediately when you wake up.

• Spend five minutes living in your goals.

• Turn on a motivational audio or video.

• Exercise

To get the maximum benefit from your personal development program start every morning by reading your goals aloud. Keep a copy of them beside your bed so they are ready for your morning reading. If you are worried about waking up your spouse, then take the list to your bathroom and read them while looking in the mirror.

The next step is visualization. Take a few minutes to see your goals already achieved. Let the idea fill your mind with visions of driving the new car, walking through the new house, holding the cash in your hands, or feeling strong and fit. Whatever your goals are, make sure you paint as bright and vivid of a picture as possible to get your emotions engaged.

Motivational audio and video can make a major difference in your life. We recommend listening anytime you get a chance, but those early morning minutes are ideal. Get your mind focused on success before the rest of day begins to increase your productivity and focus on your goals.

Exercise is just as crucial as taking care of your mind. You will discover when your day starts with exercise, you have more energy all day long. We recommend combining exercise and motivational audio for the most impact. Think about how motivated you will feel after listening to motivating music and speakers while you exercise. You are going to feel powerful, excited, and ready to tackle any obstacle in your path.

Personal development is an all day event, but those first moments of the day are crucial. Take advantage of those moments and see how it affects your life. You will find that first hour of the day is more precious than the other hours of the day. Try it for yourself and find out.

Learning To Feel Better About Yourself

When you don’t feel good about yourself, that creates a lot of problems. You work starts to suffer, and your relationships start to suffer. After all, if you can’t get along with yourself, how can other people? Here are some tips to help you start feeling better about yourself so that you can start living life again.

The first thing you need to do is to figure out why you don’t feel good about yourself. Did something happen? Did you do something wrong? You need to focus in on what is really bothering you. That way, you have somewhere to start.

Next, you have to forgive and accept yourself. You have to know that you are worth goodness and happiness in your life. You can do this by seeing a therapist, or you can also do some work at home by repeating affirmations.

You can also begin keeping a notebook that lists 10 positive things you do every day. This kind of journal may be hard to do at first, but when you can admit that you do something wonderful every day, it becomes hard to dislike yourself. When you are feeling down, you can go back in time through your notebook to see how much good you have done.

Stop saying bad things about yourself. Even if you believe what you are telling yourself, it is not healthy for you. If you say things like “I’m so fat” when you pass a mirror, or say “I’m so stupid” throughout the day, that is damaging. Instead, if you can’t start saying nice things to yourself, switch to neutral statements that don’t harm you. For example, you can say “I would like to lose weight” or “I must learn to understand this”.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself. A lot of people are plagued by families and friends who mean well but always make people feel badly about themselves. If you don’t feel good after spending time with someone, you need to cut down the amount of time you spend with them.

Get a new look. While it may seem superficial, you need to do what you can in order to start to feel better, and sometimes making a change physically can help. Try a new haircut or a few new outfits. You might find that you aren’t so bad as you thought, and others may agree with you. Changing your look around might put a new spring in your step.

Learn something new. If you can take up a hobby or learn something, you will start to discover that you can feel a sense of pride when you accomplish something in your new pasttime. For example, if you take up ballroom dancing, you might discover that you are excellent at the waltz; maybe you dance better than others in your class!

Learning to like yourself is something that is important in your life. You are the only person who spends every waking moment with yourself, so you need to learn to appreciate yourself. Use the information here to help you. Check also my previous post about Self development

Personal Development: Developing a New You

Personal development can mean many things. You can develop better interpersonal relationships, new talents or even a new career. One aspect of personal development is one that many people desire-the development of improved health, fitness and looks. Below, you will find tips that will help you get started toward a healthier, fabulous you!

If you are one of the many people who put off medical visits, or physical exams, your first step in getting healthier is to make an appointment with your physician. You will need a complete physical exam, including bloodwork. Your doctor can also recommend any age-appropriate health screenings you may need, including mammogram, diabetes screening and colonoscopy. These things are tedious, to be sure, but you cannot become the healthy person you want to be without first getting a clean bill of health.

Once you have that clean bill of health, take a look at your body. Do you need to lose a few pounds, or even 50? Extra weight can put you at risk for many dangerous health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke and sleep apnea. You can reduce these risks by adopting healthier eating habits. You do not have to follow a diet plan to lose weight. Simply switch unhealthy carbs, like white bread, white rice and pasta, for whole grain options. Eat plenty of salad and vegetables, and stick to lean proteins fish, legumes and beans. Instead of unhealthy fats, such as butter and margarine, opt for olive oil and avocados instead. As you improve your diet, the pounds will come off easily, and painlessly.

You cannot achieve total fitness without implementing some type of exercise plan. If you are very overweight, you should begin by taking long, brisk walks, one of the best exercises available. As you gain strength, stamina and weight loss, you may wish to join a gym, or exercise class where you can get fitter. Finding a buddy, or workout partner can eliminate some of the drudgery of exercising alone.

Your Look

After you have lost some weight, and are in better physical condition, it is time to focus on your outward appearance. If you are like most people, you may be in a rut, wearing the same hairstyle and clothes that you have for years. Make an appointment with a good stylist, and ask what would look best on you. Then, let them have their way with your hair. Try a make-up consultant to give you ideas for a new, modern look. While you are out, a manicure and massage will get your spirits up.

Take a look in your closet. Are your clothes modern and stylish, or are they old, outdated and the wrong size? It may be time to go on a fun shopping spree with a friend, or even a daughter, to create a new wardrobe that will complement your new look. Be brave, trying bold colors, and trendy styles. You may even be surprised that you now fit into smaller sizes!

Creating a new look for yourself can be an important phase in your personal development plan. When you are self-confident, and pleased with the way you look and feel, you will be ready to tackle new goals and achievements in your life!

Personal Development: Learning How to Give to Others

Personal development means developing aspects of your personal life that will enhance, or improve your life in positive ways. Personal development will give you a sense of purpose, fulfillment and pride in your accomplishments. Developing your personal life will improve your outlook, and give your existence a whole new meaning.

There are many paths you can take toward personal development. You can make your own plan, and include goals such as body image, financial independence, spiritual development and improving important relationships. One goal that can have a significant impact on your personal development is learning to give to others. Below, you will find some great ways to achieve this goal, and improve your life, as well as the lives of people around you.

Volunteer At a Hospital or Nursing Home

Maybe you have time to spare, or can use time you usually devote to meaningless activity, to enrich the lives of people confined to nursing homes or hospitals. Hospitals usually have a volunteer program, and welcome volunteers to do various tasks. These tasks may include delivering flowers to patients, keeping patients company and many things employees do not have the time to do. Nursing homes often have need of volunteers to help with patient activities, and welcome the help. All it takes is a phone call, or visit to ask about volunteer work.

Volunteer At a Soup Kitchen

Your life will be enriched by volunteering for services for the homeless, such as serving meals to families in need. You will gain a new understanding of needy people by giving your time, and serving people who have little or nothing. Not all homeless people are bums. There are many families who are homeless, due to job loss, or circumstances beyond their control. And, even a bum needs a smile and a hot meal. Develop your compassionate side, and find a volunteer position at a kitchen for the needy.

Home Visits

If you have a church, or know of a church in your area, you might inquire about visiting ailing church members either at home, or in the hospital. Someone who might otherwise be lonely, or have no one to visit them, may gain a new and positive outlook from a visit from a caring person. You can provide conversation, read to children or the elderly, or offer to do tasks, such as gathering mail, or making small trips to the grocery store. The most you will probably need to provide is a background check if you want to participate in this type of program.

Spend Time at a Safe House For Abused Women and Children

Women and their children in safe houses and shelters for the abused are scared, confused and afraid for their lives in many cases. Volunteers can offer help in gathering and distributing personal items to residents, such as shampoos, toothbrushes, soaps and other sundries that may help them to feel more at home. Items for children could include coloring books and crayons, games and books.

As you can see, there are many people in our world who are in need of a caring person, a smile or help with a special need. There is often no one there to help. Your personal development will grow by leaps and bounds with pride and a sense of peace that you can only achieve by giving to your fellow human beings.

Personal Development As Part Of Your Job

Personal development is the last big thing when it comes to improving yourself and becoming your best variant. There’s a lot of literature out there which teaches you how to discover your mission in life or your purpose on this planet or even how to find happiness.

Big companies discovered the motivating power of personal development programs offered to their employees, so such packages started to become part of all serious job offers, together with the business car, laptop or mobile phone. Many times, the concept of personal development is combined with interactive team building programs. When this happens, people are more willing to accept, follow and integrate into their work hard skills trainings and courses. For instance, a sales skills seminar may easily become boring, if the trainer doesn’t know how to captivate the audience. When this training happens in the middle of an interactive three-day program, it will be perceived as part of the fun, so the notions taught will be better acquired by all team members.

Employers are happy to allocate resources for the self-growth of their staff for a simple reason. The happier and more motivated people are, the better they work and the more effective and productive they are. Besides, the whole atmosphere is the office will be better, everybody will smile more and pick on others less if they are happy inside.

It is the task of human resources personnel to assess and decide which personal development programs work best for each team or for each individual. A department manager, for instance, will benefit from developing his leadership skills, not only in his private life but at work. People will more and more regard him as a leader and will behave accordingly.

Such programs are organized by companies once or twice a year and they are usually followed by periodical assessments of each participant in order to track their progress and sketch their next possible courses to attend.

Some employees will seem enthusiastic in the beginning, but their interest will fade with time. Research has shown that the effect of a training program lasts in average for six months. After this time, most people will return to their old habits. This is called the Honeymoon Effect. A small bunch of participants, though, will become interested in knowing more. They will start reading self-help books, take online quizzes and strive to improve their own person in any way they can. It is not uncommon for these people to quit their job after one or two years and start their own business or do whatever else they feel it’s their mission in life. Some of them will even fall in love with coaching and helping others develop themselves, so they will enroll in coaching classes, they will start taking certifications, joining coaching organizations, until one when they will be able to take everything a step further and help others discover their purpose on Earth.

This is a note to employers: beware, if the personal development trainings you offer are too good, you might lose your best people.

How I Learned to Deal With Stress

Stress is something that everyone experiences at one time or another. I knew that I had to make some changes when I started getting panic attacks. I was taken to the hospital because I thought I was having chest pains, and I thought I was going to die. After being taken to the emergency room and examined, the doctors were convinced that my heart was fine and that I had been having a panic attack.

I could not believe that. It felt much, much worse than a panic attack, which always seemed to me as if that was for people who were “nervous Nellies”. But a few weeks later I started having the same symptoms and went to my own doctor, and he said the same thing. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. When he offered me anxiety medication I chose not to take it, because I wanted to see how I could do on my own, now that I knew what was going on.

The first thing I did was to give up coffee and caffeine. That was one of the hardest things I have done in my life, and I still miss it. But I did some reading and found information that suggested that, while it probably wasn’t causing my panic attacks, it was definitely making my anxiety worse. I do feel much calmer since I stopped drinking coffee.

Next, I stopped hanging around negative people. I knew a lot of negative people at my job. None of us really liked the work we did, so it was easy to be negative–and that’s what most people did. I realized that if I wanted to stop feeling so stressed out, I needed to hang around people who weren’t as negative as the stress they were going through. Some people didn’t understand why I was distancing myself, but I definitely am glad I did.

Then, I looked for a daily practice I could do in order to calm myself throughout the day. I tried yoga, and I tried deep breathing exercises. I tried doing a lot of different things. The only thing that seems to helped me is Escrima (FMA filipino martial art) and guided meditation. I find that if I meditate in the morning, I feel much better in the morning, which means I get more things done. And then, I can be happier an more effective in the afternoon while doing FMA.

I also started exercising twice a week so I could decrease the stress in my life.

I’m taking steps to leave my job right now, as a matter of fact. While I’m feeling much better, that will probably do the trick. As I mentioned, I don’t like my job at all, and I can now see that it is making me ill. I can always find another job.

I know that I still have some work to do, but since making the above changes I feel much better with my life.
